Wood is a timeless material that brings warmth and beauty to any project, but protecting it from the elements is crucial for longevity. At Excelsior, we are committed to offering the best solutions to enhance and preserve the natural beauty of wood. One of our favorite systems for this purpose is Nova's ExoClad Rainscreen QuickClip.

The Rainscreen QuickClips are designed to be user-friendly and efficient, making them an excellent choice for both DIY enthusiasts and professional contractors. Our craftsman, Chris 'Wally' Wambach, recently demonstrated the application and installation of raincreen siding, showcasing the ease of installation and benefits for long-lasting siding.

Innovative Design For Maximum Protection

The clips are ingeniously designed to fit seamlessly with the profile of the siding, ensuring a sturdy and reliable installation. The clips are secured with screws approximately 16 to 20 inches apart, and the mirroring edge of the clip slides perfectly into the lipped edge of the next board, repeating this process until the siding is complete. Wally highlights how the clips hold the rainscreen away from the substrate, promoting air circulation and preventing moisture buildup.

The “forked” profile design allows for flexibility and enables the wood to expand and contract as the moisture content fluctuates around the location’s geographic equilibrium moisture content (EMC). Essentially, the clips are preventing irreversible movement that can in turn create a noticeable shift in the siding, casued by moisture induced expansion due to zero tolerance between boards. This design feature is crucial for maintaining the siding's integrity over time, as it helps keep the wood dry and reduces the risk of rot and movement.

Wide Range of Application Possibilities

One of the standout benefits of the rainscreen is its flexibility. It can be installed both vertically and horizontally, accommodating various design preferences and project requirements. Additionally, Wally mentioned the variety of wood types that can be used with this system, particularly Ambara wood, which is known for its stability, quick drying properties, and resistance to rot due to its thermal modification.
