Excelsior Wood Briquettes are made from 100% compressed kiln-dried sawdust, a recycled byproduct of our manufacturing process. The briquettes are made from wood only. There are zero additives, zero chemicals, and no pressure-treated products included. It’s just wood!
Each briquette measures approximately 2-1/2″ x 4″ x 6″. They are packed for easy storage and loading. This size makes them a perfect fit for most indoor stoves and fireplaces. The uniform size along with their high density gives the briquettes a predictable burn time, resulting in less loading and more relaxing.
Benefits include lower moisture levels than firewood, decreased creosote and ash, as well as the elimination of insects that infest firewood, plus no splitting… Generally, there is simply less mess and fewer backaches.

Description
The briquettes must be kept dry. The shrink-wrap is not waterproof. Bricks will expand and crumble when wet.
Brick Size: approximately 2-1/2″ x 4″ x 6. Pallet Sizes available: 1 ton (918 bricks to a ton). Bricks are shrink-wrapped in packs of nine, stacked and palletized in each unit. Tarp provided to cover pallet from weather elements, but we still recommend that bricks are not stored outdoors.
Comparing the wood briquettes with firewood is not an apple-to-apple evaluation. A cord of firewood can contain different species of wood with varying moisture levels. So, the following comparison contains some generalities. Approximately 1 lb. of compressed wood briquettes is equivalent to 1.7 lbs. of firewood. Wood briquettes provide approximately 7500 BTU’s per pound while firewood produces about 4,000 — 7,000/BTU’s per pound. Ash content is about 2-6 times higher in firewood. A cord of firewood is 128 cubic feet, while wood briquettes use only 30 cubic feet.
There are approximately 864 briquettes per one-ton pallet. Shrink wrapped packets of nine are stacked and palletized in each unit. The briquettes must be kept dry. The shrink-wrap is not waterproof. However, we provide two pallet covers with each ton for your convenience, to keep them dry. Pick up hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. through noon and 12:30 through 3:30. Excelsior’s wood briquettes are made from kiln-dried sawdust that burns nice and hot. Be sure to adjust airflow to lengthen burn times and prevent overheating. Wood briquettes expand when they burn – do not overfill. Please reach out to your wood stove manufacturer to see if they recommend using this product.
Our compressed wood bricks are certified 100% natural wood only. See USDA certification. Excelsior Wood Products has no responsibility for how the bricks are used. It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser to use bricks appropriately. Check with your wood stove or fireplace manufacturer and be sure that whatever apparatus or location you burn the bricks is safe and appropriate.
