“Owning a home in Woodstock, I was looking for something unique that would fit into my cottage. A friend recommended I check out Excelsior Wood Products on Sawkill Road.

I was greeted by Christina Sauer, a most vivacious young woman who guided me through the process. Mind you, there was no sales pressure, no ‘make up your mind NOW’; she seemed to know what I was looking for to complete my cottage dining room. She showed me the different types of wood and then after carefully choosing my soon-to-be table, we chalked out the slab of black walnut. Christina would call me every few days to keep me in touch with the progress of the table and finally, I got to see the beautiful craftsmanship of THE table. I cried the first time I saw it…never seen such a beautiful piece of nature! She introduced me to the man who took that raw slab of wood and made it a place where I will break bread with family & friends.

“We built a LEED-certified home and used Excelsior’s reclaimed heart pine in many ways: flooring, benches, and posts. Ron sourced and obtained amazingly gorgeous beams from a factory in Ohio that were planed into gorgeous, wide plank flooring. I built the house along with a lead carpenter who was initially skeptical about working with such long, wide reclaimed wood. He was also skeptical that the finish would work as promised. By the end of the installation, our carpenter said, ‘This was the easiest, best floor to install. And, I can’t believe a single coat of VOC-free flooring oil could be so easy to use yet so beautiful.’ A year later, the floor looks great. Even more, it feels great on our feet.”

“In 2012, we had Excelsior Wood Products install flooring in our waterfront home. We chose Antique Pine reclaimed wood. This type of flooring complimented the renovation of the existing structure which was built in 1940. With its wide planks, distressed finish, and deep rich brown hues, the antique pine flooring has withstood our lifestyle by the water, our two labs, and family gatherings with grandchildren. We loved the final result with this flooring so much that we decided to have Excelsior make our staircase and custom build our kitchen/dining (huge) table. The staircase is beautiful with thick, solid treads. Ron custom-made our table with Coney Island Boardwalk. The design and size are amazing. We highly recommend Excelsior Wood Products. “It was my pleasure to work with Ron Sauer and his team at Excelsior! They were a delight to work with to customize our new construction home built in 2011, in Lake Hill, NY. Ron and his team fabricated custom trim and moldings for the entire house, they also installed reclaimed wide-width red oak floors with beautiful finish throughout, made custom reclaimed beam mantels for our fireplaces, installed reclaimed wood ceilings in two bedrooms as well as beam wraps. They also installed reclaimed Ipe from the Coney Island Boardwalk on our large wrap-around porches and screen room. This was stunning and gave our home a piece of history and made the home feel it had been there forever, rather than the typical new construction feel.

However, our favorite work Ron did was design a live edge island top for our kitchen. It was a piece of art and the centerpiece of our kitchen! We received countless compliments on the work they did. The Excelsior team was prompt, materials were fabricated with care, delivered on time, installed beautifully! “Here at Mills-Norrie State Park, we have a very busy campground with over forty-five sites and ten cabins. We serve a diverse clientele from a large number of geographic locations ranging from very rural areas to New York City. We recently had the good fortune to obtain the kiln-dried fire logs which we sell to our campers for campfires. Our campers absolutely love them! They are clean, easy to light, and a completely “green” product. They are also insect and disease-free which with the recent concerns about the Emerald Ash Borer, gives us confidence that no damage or disease is being spread in our forests. We have also used these fire logs in our woodstoves and fireplaces and found them to be very efficient, clean-burning with a minimal amount of ash. Finally, it should not be understated how friendly, courteous, and professional all the folks at Excelsior Wood Products have been to us. A win-win situation all the way!”
