Western Red Cedar (WRC) is an excellent choice for exterior uses, such as siding and decking. WRC is lightweight, easy to work with, and is naturally resistant to moisture, decay and insect damage. This species has a beautiful warm grain and the ability to take a variety of coatings (stains, primers, and topcoats ).
- Grade A & Btr. includes limiting provisions such as small seasoning checks, occasional light skips on edges and back of the boards, and suited best for projects with semi-transparent clear coating.
- Select Knotty grade has great character. With sound and tight knots, Select Knotty is often used in siding and interior paneling applications.
Shiplap siding is durable, versatile, and easier to work with than other commonly used siding options. With the ability to be installed both vertically and horizontally, shiplap meets the criteria for multiple different design looks. Compared to aluminum and vinyl, shiplap wooden siding is relatively easy to install, as well as to repair. In addition, shiplap profiles produce a tight seal, resulting in superior protection against moisture and wind-related damages.
Excelsior’s standard shiplap pattern measures at 3/4″ thick with a 1/2″ lap or 3/8″ lap (see picture diagram for face measurements)
